In the biz we call it wallcovering but yes, it is the same thing. There are so many things that one can accomplish with wallcovering - it can add texture, warmth and of course, fabulousness.

Look closely, the wallcovering below has large scale gold chains all over it. This paper may be my darling Italian husband's dream come true. An homage to his giant gold chain!
